Plainfield Elementary School, like many north country schools, has high energy use, noisy mechanical systems, decaying cladding, and comfort and air quality challenges. In March 2009 voters funded an experiment proposed by the Facilities Committee - a deep energy retrofit of a single corner classroom that replaced windows, added insulation, and installed a mini-split heat pump and an energy recovery ventilator.
